Have you ever wondered what it would be like to enter the presence of Jesus? Isaiah got to do that very thing. Isaiah is a righteous man, but this is what happens to Isaiah: He hears the heavens declaring the holiness of God and it exposes a truth about him he had not previously seen. He sees the beauty of God and how he stands in comparison. He discovers he needs a lip replacement.
This is just the beginning of Isaiah’s journey. He discovers more truth, adopting a perspective and making choices of obedience that help him grow in faith. All of this requires change.
This is the “problem” of seeing ourselves truly – it might mean we need to change. But the right perspective is the one Isaiah chose – he gladly sought cleansing. If we are dirty, why would we not want to be clean?
Knowing the truth is a blessing. Truth sets us free. Isaiah was set free from unclean lips. One reason we might avoid truth is because we don’t want to change. But God implores us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
By listening to God, we receive a great gift. We gain perspective. New avenues of truth are exposed. We learn how to be cleansed. We receive instruction on how to set aside “me” and walk in newness of life.
