One of the things that endear us to comic superheroes is that they live their everyday lives in ways far less than their super alter-ego. In fact, they are usually viewed by the world around them as losers.
Similarly, when we seek to live life as a faith superhero, like Abraham, it is likely few of our fellow humans will either know or care. It’s hard work to actually walk in faith. We may be misunderstood. When the world does not recognize us as super, we tend to stop trying. After all, we reason, what’s the point if no one recognizes me?
But the very essence of faith is “not seeing”. Therefore, the unseen aspect of our good works is evidence we are on the right track. If faith is something that cannot be seen, we should not be surprised when the world does not see it. In fact, we ought to be encouraged. The perspective of God, not the validation of the world is our marker of success.
The fruit of our faith is an immeasurable secret. Even we don’t fully understand what God is doing and what a relationship with Him does to us. Our confidence is in hope.
These are lofty concepts that often go unnoticed in our superficial society. Such is the nature of faith, of anything bigger than our understanding.
