We often think of superheroes as lone wolves. Their true identities are secret. Their powers misunderstood by those around them. They live lives of extreme responsibility and loneliness. They are marked by angst and a heroism we associate with carrying the weight of the world by oneself.
Recent hero movies have shown another side of what it means to be super. Living in community. Movies like The Avengers and The Justice League (even The Incredibles) explore what it looks like for a team of supers to band together. To spread the responsibility and know one another.
This is a more accurate picture of life in the Kingdom of God. We are meant to be faith superheroes. But not alone. We are called to steward our own responsibilities. But our impact is magnified exponentially when used in tandem with other faith superheroes.
God’s call on our lives is not just to employ the vast power He placed within us to serve others. It is also to partner with others who have diverse strengths. Unifying for the cause of goodness.
Life is a team sport. Discovering our super ability is just the beginning. The next step is to team up with others toward a common goal.
