One of the reasons we are fascinated with superheroes is because they can do far more than we can. They can run faster, jump higher, punch harder. They can fly through space and save the world from peril. We watch these characters on the big screen and our hearts stir. Deep down, we desire to be far more ourselves.

The far more lives of movie superheroes always includes a fight. The ones with the great power get the call to rescue the world from evil. With power comes responsibility. To whom much is given, much is expected.

The Kingdom of God is no different. We have far more ability through the indwelling Spirit. But we also like comfort. We like to fit in.

But far more is not about a vacation in the sun. It is about being equipped to engage in the fight. And our fight is with the spiritual forces of darkness in this world. The evil one who sows discord and reaps division.

How are we able to fight such a foe? The same way the big screen characters do. With far more power. Indwelling resurrection power.

Our power is not accessed with a magic ring or a mutated gene. We access this great power with a humble heart, a listening ear, and willingness to walk by faith.

We have far more power than we can even imagine. Power to resist evil and do good. In order to access that power, we must have the courage to fight and the humility to serve.  But that’s just a normal day in the life of a superhero.

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,”
– Ephesians 3:20
