One thing we scarcely notice when we watch superhero movies is the fact that they are largely anonymous to other movie characters. We are watching the movie from an insider’s perspective, a kind of documentarian view, which allows us to see the inner workings from an elevated perch.
But in the world of the superhero, there is a lot the public does not know. A lot they don’t acknowledge. And a lot they do not understand.
Like the superheroes of the movies, every believer has incredible abilities, gifts given by the Holy Spirit. We all have the opportunity to use our gifts and talents in an extraordinary way. There is power within us, waiting to be awakened.
Also, like the movies, when we exercise our gifts, it might be invisible to most of those living around us.
But there is an enormous audience watching us from an elevated perch and an insider’s perspective: the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. And when they see us following Jesus in service and obedience, applying our gifts as unto the Lord, they learn about God.
We have the awesome privilege, and responsibility, to let God’s power flow out of us to serve others. It matters in this world, as well as to an “audience” we can’t even see.
