The Bible tells us we ought to love God. But it doesn’t stop there. The Bible also tells us the enormous benefit of loving God. It is a benefit so great it goes beyond anything we can imagine.

Loving God simply means obeying God no matter our circumstances, living in the manner the Bible tells us to live. This is often hard. We don’t feel like serving, we feel like being served. We don’t feel like waiting patiently, we want what we want now. Why should we do what we don’t feel like doing? What is the benefit?

This verse tells us plainly that the benefit to obedience is so vast that we can’t conceive of it on our own. This glory comes from loving Him by walking in faith, following His Spirit, living counter to the flesh and choosing to serve in truth.

God wants us to lay aside our flesh so He can bless us beyond our imaginations. God’s gift of new birth is an unconditional gift that is received solely by faith. This is something different. It is an unimaginable blessing that is reserved for those who love Him. Loving God means listening and obeying. There are many who think blessing comes from getting God to listen to us. But unimaginable blessing comes when we listen to Him and obey His commands. Loving God is the most profitable of all human activities, leading to the greatest blessings.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
– 1 Corinthians 2:9
