Today is another day of your life. It is fast and furious and full of opportunity.

There is a part of the human spirit that longs for what is to be. And this is rightly so because our ultimate hope, our full redemption is a future experience. To see Christ as He is, in all His fullness, is too tempting a desire to hold at bay. We long for that day. We trust in it and set our hearts toward it.

But that day is not today. We can hope and imagine and anticipate what is to come. We should. But we should ALSO make the most of today. As imperfect as it is, it is not devoid of meaning. Far from it. It is not absent of thrill or purpose.

Today, we are children of God. Learning and growing. Progressing and trusting. We are getting to experience the wild adventure ride of life for a short season. An opportunity for faith – the one thing we won’t be able to do in Heaven. An opportunity to make choices, to enjoy the life God has blessed us with and to steward the gifts bestowed on us.

Like any great roller coaster, the thrill comes with some trepidation. We can’t have one without the other. The joy of this life is a unique experience. And the loops of circumstance, the speed of the track, and the uncertainty of the next turn are all uncomfortable. But we get to choose whether the discomfort takes away from the adventure or adds to it.

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.”
– 1 John 3:2-3
