There are a lot of voices in this world trying to tell us what it means to succeed. What does being rich look like and how do we get it?

Psalm 1 implores us to hear the word of God, to find joy and trust in it, to walk in it and with it, and to do what it commands.

When we follow God’s guidance, we are like a tree firmly embedded in the earth near a source of nourishment. The seasons may change around us, but the steadfastness of our position will surely bear fruit.

We are so impatient, uprooting ourselves and trying all sorts of ways to succeed, to be happy, to enjoy a meaningful life. We try fame and validation, money and power. But none of it works. These are not the true source of prosperity.

God promises us all the riches we can handle. But the true currency of The Kingdom of God is relationship. Starting with our relationship with God and including the way we care for one another, there is nothing richer than being with one another in unity of purpose.

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers.”
– Psalm 1:1-3
