We use our hands for all sorts of things. The point of a finger, to guide or to condemn. A grip to welcome, hold or wield. A touch to comfort or to tend.

The Lord’s Hands work in the same way. By a diversity of means, the gifts and beauty of the Lord are passed and handled, carried and cared for, by the Hands of God.

He holds in His Hand the secret mysteries of creation. He holds the meaning of life. He carries blessing and glory in his palms.

Sin and idolatry come when we try to take things that properly belong in God’s hands “into our own hands”. Perhaps we don’t trust what the Lord is doing. Where He is guiding or what He is holding.

We sometimes try to make circumstances serve us. We seek control. We desire what properly belongs in God’s hands to be in our own. By clutching what is not ours we sacrifice our greatest blessing.

Through the Hands of the Lord, we have access to all good things. If we let go our own compulsion to take God’s place, we are free to receive what He offers, what He provides. When we live in thanksgiving and praise for what comes to us from God’s Hands, we gain nothing less than strength and glory. The fingerprints that created the universe will show up in our daily lives.

“…and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name.”
