In all of our great, epic stories, there is a character who serves as a sort of supernatural guide. Think of Gandalf or Yoda. It is a character with wisdom and strength that pulls other characters into possibilities they otherwise thought impossible. These characters also serve as a comforting companion. A source of peace, trust, hope.

Our journey on this earth is over in the blink of an eye. It is fast, adventurous, and difficult. All along the way, God is our constant companion. He is right beside us, helping, encouraging, challenging, and whispering to us, inviting us to participate in more than we can imagine. Each moment on this earth is a wondrous opportunity to follow God, to go as He leads.

As we march through this life, the Lord marches beside us. He sings with joy. He weeps beside us. He loves. Every day, every moment of this brief and exciting journey, He is with us.

But that is just the beginning. The prologue.

God’s presence transcends this brief journey. He will continue to be with us, or – better said – we will be with Him, throughout all of eternity. His presence is the thing that links this brief, once-in-an-existence opportunity to know God by faith with the eternal reality ahead of us.

To make the most of this life, we have to align with the author of Eternal Life. The adventure of this brief existence is significant. It sets the stage for everything that follows. And we are blessed; there is a guide to help us through.

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
– Zephaniah 3:17
