We want to win. Something within us innately desires victory. We want to be on top. We want to succeed.

There are many different ways to look at winning. If the world is tricking us, it gets us to accept its definition of winning. But we can trick the world back. You might call this “beating them at their own game”. We can do this by realizing that winning is overcoming the world itself.

And that happens through faith.

The Apostle John tells us that to overcome, we need to make our choices based on faith. Faith, belief, is the thing that defeats evil and the powers of ‘the world’. Not faith in just anything. Faith that Jesus is the Son of God.

Who or what we believe is one of the three things we control. Living a life of choices that shout out, “Jesus is the Son of God”, is the very essence of how we can win at life. That life will look like serving others in love, even when that love is rejected.

We don’t need darkness to disappear to defeat it. Trials, pain, and challenges will always be a part of life. The key to overcoming is to adopt a true perspective.

“Who is the one who overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”
