We seek peace through a variety of methods. We try to avoid pain, to control or predict circumstances. We try to make the “right” choices about what job to take or even where to go for dinner. We entrust our peace to our season of life, our emotions, and our circumstance.

But the only true source of peace comes through believing. Through trust. It is a paradox. An oxymoron. We gain by letting go. We experience peace through trust.

The same could be said for our pathways to joy and hope.

Our unique opportunity in this life is to live by faith, to place our trust in God. Belief. Hope. They are all suggesting the same thing: a life of faith. It is the key to succeeding in this world.

We cannot find peace through manipulating or controlling circumstances (or other people), through certainty and the removal of discomfort, nor through the avoidance of pain or the numbness of complacency.

The only way to experience this life for all it is worth is through believing. Where will you place your hope today? In whom will you trust?

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
– Romans 15:13
