One of the beautiful things about living in this world is the way we affect one another. This can also be the worst thing. Our greatest desire is meaningful relationships, but that often becomes our greatest source of problems.

At our best, we emanate God’s goodness, inspiring the goodness of God to pour out of one another. At our worst we steal life from others and make it our own – we are spiritual cannibals.

Believers have the Spirit of God dwelling within and can choose to unleash the Spirit’s power like a light on a hill. Each human is made in the image of God and carries a reflection of Divine glory. But the Spirit that dwells within transcends human limitations.

Being a light starts with taking ownership, choosing a perspective of stewardship and responsibility. Recognizing that choosing to walk in the Spirit by faith is what truly brings life to our surroundings. Owning our decisions and stewarding our gifts. Investing our talents to benefit others. Trusting God’s promises for our benefit, not demanding the benefit appear in a particular time or place.

We have the true source of light within us, ready for us to let it shine forth. We let that light shine when we follow Christ’s example and walk in serving obedience.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
