Life is full of metaphors. It is one of our favorite ways to describe things. Seeing a parallel in a story or an idea we can currently understand helps introduce us to topics previously beyond our comprehension.

The Bible is full of metaphors that help us describe spiritual realities. Sometimes the divine is too bright to look directly into, and we grab some sunglasses to help us with the view.

But sometimes we begin to mistake the metaphors for full reality. We leave the deep truth they were pointing to. We seek them as an end rather than a means to a deeper end.

Material wisdom is a far lesser pursuit than spiritual wisdom. The wisdom that comes from God is greater than the subservient shadows. Because material wisdom, although it falls way short, speaks to our deep desire for something that does satisfy. Something fulfilling. Something pure.

Spiritual wisdom is the heartbeat of a true perspective. A treasure chest of purpose and joy. If we pursue spiritual wisdom for the richness it is worth, our lives will be transformed. Because the riches of the Kingdom of God is the opportunity to know God Himself. He is the gold. And we can have all the gold we want.

“These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” – Colossians 2:17
