Our two-minute ride is full of ups and downs, twists and turns. We experience seasons of anticipation and exhilaration as well as dread, and the weight of gravity sinking in our gut. But the ride of life is a unique opportunity that will only come once in our existence.

As we’re on the ride, it is hard to tell if the downs are propelling us for the ups, giving the necessary speed to climb the incline. Or if the ups are preparing us for the downs, setting us up for a fall. At times, it feels like each are true.

The truth is that life is not a series of ups served by the downs or a set of downs served by the ups. Reality is that they are connected. They are inextricably linked in the ride of life.

By the design of God the Creator, ups and downs, twists and turns, are how life works. They are part of the thrill and the dread of the human journey. Just as each year has seasons, life transitions as it wends on its way. The twists and turns work in concert with one another.

What is essential for us to remember through all the experiences is that our ride is a unique opportunity. Never again will we get to experience living through life’s ups and downs by faith. It is exclusive to life on this planet. To make the most of it, we must remain aware. We must choose a true perspective about our lives.

There will be a time to weep, to laugh, to dance, to mourn. It’s all part of the ride. But the ride is a never-to-be-repeated opportunity, through it all, to know God by faith.

“A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance.”
– Ecclesiastes 3:4
