God’s plan for the Earth was for mankind to have dominion. From the beginning of Genesis to the verses of Revelation, we are exalted as kings and priests on behalf of God – his appointed stewards of Creation
It is a position equal parts honor and service. A blessing and a responsibility. In his infinite wisdom, God has chosen humanity to be his body, the servant of his message and the expression of his kingdom.
Unfortunately, humanity hasn’t done so well in exercising this high calling. In fact, God had to come to earth in the form of a human in order to redeem and restore the high calling. Jesus came to demonstrate to us that our truest royal function is to serve others.
The agent of all creation washed feet to demonstrate what it means to be a king and priest in God’s kingdom. His service culminated in the suffering of death on our behalf.
Our appointed position as stewards comes with an immense amount of responsibility. We are called to demonstrate God’s essence of service through our lives. Our position is a gift to be used to serve. The Bible actually tells us that the world is groaning in its longing for us to assume our proper stewardship.
When we adopt the perspective that our highest possible calling is to serve our very best, in whatever station to which God has called us, it brings great meaning to our every action. Every responsibility well stewarded is great and noble. And every self-seeking action is beneath our calling.
“To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.”
