The Perfect Moment

Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.” – Psalm 51:6

Have you ever been walking down the street or driving with the windows down or looking out of an airplane window and had that peace that passes understanding sweep over you? Have you exhaled and smiled and thought, “this is perfect”?

Unfortunately, those moments are few and far between. The times where everything aligns and life just makes sense, for the briefest of moments.

Adopting a true perspective is not about having a lifetime of those moments. It is about breaking free of the trap of waiting for those moments, of needing them in order to feel meaning and purpose in our lives.

The perfect moments are to be celebrated. To be basked in for as long as they linger, which usually is very brief. But we also have to figure out how to live the rest of our lives. Existence is so rich with opportunity. So rich with goodness and beauty. It is so complicated, so mysterious, but so wonderful.

Our hurts and our boredom and our everyday grind have just as much value as those perfect moments. The only difference is that we see perfect moments for what they are worth; we sense them.

But every moment is a perfect moment. It might be a hard moment or a mundane moment. But it is also a choice. To see and worship the True Living God! To live a life of faith in community with The Lord of the Universe. Don’t wait for that sudden and brief rush of perfection to celebrate life and make your choices. Today is a day of goodness. A day of worship and celebration.
