The only way to increase our faith is through hearing and believing the message of Christ.

We cannot gain faith through met expectations, specific circumstances, or any other temporal measure. Humans waste a lot of time trying to grow their faith by manipulating circumstances. We try to prove our faith by controlling the world around us.

That is not how faith works.  We gain faith by listening. Faith is not a proof; it is a trust.

We trust God by tuning our hearts to hear His voice. By learning from what He has to say to us – through Scripture, our community, nature, etc. Faith is trusting in God. It is not leaning on our own understanding.

The message of Scripture is that Christ is worthy of our trust. He is God and nobody else is God. As such, He is all that is worthy of our faith.

When we listen to the voice of God, we open ourselves to more faith. We expose ourselves to the source of faith – the author and perfecter. It is how faith arrives, how it proves its worth, and how we grow in it.

There is nothing more pressing for our day than listening to God. As we open our ears to hear what he has to say, what is clear in His Scriptures and what is blaring through the natural world, we unclog our perspective and allow faith the opportunity to grow, increase, and bear fruit.

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
– Romans 10:17
