Life is hard and confusing. A circumstance we think is best one day might show itself to be disastrous down the line – and vice versa. We need something external to put our trust in, something to submit to. We need something that knows what is best. Someone to trust.

The only one truly capable of holding this office is God. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. And Jesus is the King of both realms. When the adventure of our brief but wonderful life ends, we continue on as living spirits awaiting a new, spiritual body. We often say “you have a soul”. The truth is: you are a soul. You “have” a body. Our body/our mind house our understanding and our ability to perceive.

A consequence of this reality is that true happiness will always have a spiritual foundation. An entertaining comedy might provide some moments of escape, but it will not heal a broken heart. We are made for more. We are souls made for eternity. As we are confined to this temporal journey, in these temporal bodies, we are limited.

But even the limitations of life on earth is an adventure, a beautiful opportunity. It invites us to trust the Lord in all our ways. In all our choices. In all our experiences. Trust that the Lord doesn’t make mistakes. In laughter as well as sadness. His best for us is embedded within our reality, whether or not it is apparent. The choice of this adventure is to lean into the mystery of our souls and the spiritual reality of our existence. To trust God to fill in the gaps. And worship him as the creator and sustainer of our souls.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
– Proverbs 3:5-6
